Description

ReStitch Wabash Valley is inviting volunteers and asking for help to be part of something deeply meaningful. On this hands-on build day, simple materials are transformed into something that brings comfort, dignity, and care to individuals experiencing homelessness.

At the heart of what we do is connection. We take donated plastic bags and repurposed materials and, together as a community, turn them into durable sleep systems that help protect our unhoused neighbors from the cold, wet ground. Each piece created is more than just a mat — it is a reminder that someone cares.

Volunteers will be able to step into this mission in a variety of ways, including:

Cutting plastic bags into strips to create “plarn” (plastic yarn)

Weaving mats using simple loom systems

Helping assemble and prepare sleep system components

Sorting and organizing materials that make future builds possible

No experience is needed — just a willingness to show up and be part of something bigger than yourself. Every task, no matter how small, plays a role in creating comfort for someone in need.

This project gives volunteers the opportunity to not only serve, but to truly see the impact of their hands in real time. It fosters compassion, connection, and a shared sense of purpose, reminding us all that meaningful change happens when a community comes together.
