We are looking for some friendly volunteers to greet customers and be cashiers in the White Violet Center Farm Store!

We sell our organic grown vegetables and herbs, pasture-raised hen eggs, apple cider, seeds, plants, in addition to food items from other local farms...such as cheese, syrup, honey, candles and more.

Farm store volunteers are needed at least one day during the week. We prefer someone to volunteer on the same day every week or every other week.

Assist with activities for persons who are elderly and in health care--BINGO, parties, and craft projects. Welcome visitors to our Sisters of Providence grounds and guide people on tours of shrines and holy places on the campus. Tours are given to children through adults, during the week and on weekends.  You will only volunteer when you are able.

Volunteer Delivery Drivers pick up meals on their assigned day between 10:45m and 11:00am at our building downtown. It takes about an hour to deliver meals to our clients. We will provide training and anything else you might need like masks or gloves.

Terre Haute Area Meals on Wheels is a non-profit agency committed to enhancing the quality of life for eligible homebound adults in our community. Our mission is to serve the elderly, frail, disabled, convalescing and others who cannot provide proper nutrition for themselves. Dedicated volunteers deliver meals to our clients each weekday, with the objective of improving the nutritional status and health of these individuals. It is our goal that this combination of nutritious meals and social contact will help our clients to remain independent as long as possible.

The American Red Cross is working around the clock to provide food, comfort and other emergency support to those affected by disasters. Common disasters to which we respond to happen right here in our own communities, floods and fires. 

Every day there are 2-3 home fires in Indiana and volunteers are needed to respond in person to provide comfort and meet disaster caused needs. All training is provided online, sign up for a minimum of two on-call shifts throughout a month that meet your schedule, and help your community!

Office volunteer duties include assisting our office secretary with phone calls, sorting School Year and Birthday sponsor donations, and distributing donations to individuals.

We are looking for a few more Lead builders to volunteer their time to help out those in need gain access to the community. You do NOT have to be a professional builder to assemble these ramps, but we do want you to have some familiarity with building and working with the tools we use.

Builds are usually on Saturday mornings around 8am, but can be customized to fit the volunteers schedule. When you are brought onto the build team our experienced builders will train you on how our ramps are assembled before we set you out to lead your own team. Are you friendly, helpful and organized?

 Volunteer must be a self-starter who is able to follow routine procedures, fold and stack clothing neatly, sort clothing and make independent decisions. Volunteers may work on a regular basis, or as needed, depending on the supply and demand. Hours are flexible. Volunteers will accept or reject donated items based on condition and appropriateness. Organizational skills are a must. The goal is to keep the Clothing Closet neat and stocked for daily use by clients. If volunteer wishes to work directly with families (clients) hours are 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM Mon.- Fri.

If getting in the Christmas mood is a challenge for you, this is the place to come and volunteer!

Teams of volunteers work through the year, to sort through donations to determine which are acceptable for the Christmas Store Program. Items not suitable for the Christmas Store are sent to the Clothes Closet, Household Exchange or recycling/repurposing. Items at the Christmas Store are new and verified in working condition. These items will be collected into their specific storage or display location for further determination as to their use.

The team meets every Tuesday from 9am-11am at the Christmas Store.

One of the most rewarding and meaningful experiences is as a Volunteer Shopper Assistant. This position is needed during the Christmas Season each year and is based on the Christmas Store schedule When you assist our neighbors through the store and help them select items, hear what is on their mind and who they are shopping for you will often hear how grateful they are to have this experience.

Do you enjoy working outdoors and getting your hands dirty?

Grounds/Maintenance Grounds/Maintenance volunteers meet the maintenance needs of the yard and house. This can consist of general gardening, lawn mowing, planting flowers, also, exterior building maintenance such as changing light bulbs, sweeping, leaf racking, etc. It could also include maintenance of equipment for those with the appropriate skills.

This would be on a regular basis with consideration of the weather.

Champions Reading Program – The Champions Reading was created in response to the IREAD-3 exam.
Our goal is to ensure children attending Ryves Youth Center are reading at their grade appropriate level.
Volunteers will focus on reading by working one-on-one or in small groups of children from
kindergarten-3rd grade.

We encourage our volunteers to read to these children and for the children to
read to the volunteer. This interaction creates a wonderful synergistic experience to both individuals
and allows the children to feel approval, validation and achievement for their efforts. Our hope is that
the child will be motivated towards more educational opportunities.

The curriculum and assessments will be provided by the Ryves Youth Center Educational Coordinator.
Progress of each child is tracked by the Educational Coordinator.

Tutors work one-on-one with children to help them understand their school
work and assignments.

Are you crafty?

 Volunteers are needed to help plan and implement arts and crafts activities. Ryves
Youth Center has art supplies on hand. Staff are always open to new ideas that you might have and want
to share with us.

Fun Food Friday is a weekly program, offered on Friday afternoons, that involves a
healthy snack combined with a theme or a craft project. It might be themed on a specific holiday such as
Christmas, Easter or Valentines or it could be Star Wars, a Jungle Safari or Veggie Pizza day. Whatever it
might be, bring your imagination and your kitchen skills to this one. Volunteers are needed to help
coordinate and implement activities.

Children experience other cultures and histories through food, such as Thai, Mexican, Chinese, Polish, German and other countries and cultures. Volunteers are needed to work with the children in preparing a menu and assisting with cooking.

Library volunteers read to small groups of children.

They help coordinate educational games and keep the library clean and organized.

Are you an athlete? Do you like to play basketball or perhaps you like coaching?

 During the school year, Ryves Youth Center hosts several basketball leagues for middle
school (Tuesdays) and high school (Thursdays) age children. Volunteers are needed to coach, referee,
and run the scoreboard. We offer co-ed teams with varying skill levelsfor the children. Coaches provide
a great opportunity for children to get the guidance and support needed. We encourage positive
reinforcement with these children. Your attention and interest in them can make a big difference in
their lives. In some situations, you might be a role model to them and when you share a kind word or a
compliment it can motivate them to reach beyond their own perceived limitations.

Volunteers can help coordinate sports activities like soccer and volleyball as well
as other physical activities and games in the gymnasium.

The Ryves Preschool primarily serves children who are homeless and at risk of
homelessness. Preschool hours are 8am-5pm. Preschool volunteers work directly with our preschool
children and assist with preparation of meals such as breakfast and snack. Lunch and dinner are
provided through our Gourmet Kitchen in the lower level of The Center. We work with the children in
the classroom in small groups during learning modules and on class projects.

All families in the community are welcome to join us on the third Wednesday of each
month for Family Night. Families are encouraged to eat dinner together at the Youth Center, listen to a
presentation from one of our community partners and participate in activities. Volunteers are needed
to help plan and facilitate some of the family activities. The Family Night Committee meets once a
month to plan monthly activities. For more information, contact Jim Pinkstaff at (812) 235-1265 Monday
thru Friday noon – 8 pm.

At this time, we are unable to accept volunteers at VCPL. The Friends of VCPL however are! 

The volunteer will assist the supply center staff with the following:

1. Tagging and shelving, general donated items in the supply center. 

2. Organizing and cleaning the supply center.

3. Assisting families as needed.

The Red Cross is looking for a volunteer to help provide expert support and guidance to regional teams in maximizing use of Humanitarian Services data visualization and decision support systems. Systems include, (but are not limited to), Power Bi, Excel reports, and Red Cross applications. This volunteer should feel very comfortable with technology, as one of their main roles will be to help train fellow volunteers and provide assistance with troubleshooting. Refresh your skills, learn new platforms, and build leadership experience. This is a virtual (work from home) volunteer position with a time commitment varying from 6 to 10 hours monthly.

Catholic Charities Soup Kitchen serves a hot meal at no cost from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.,  Monday thru Friday and offers free bagged lunches on Saturday and Sunday.

Kitchen support is needed for assisting with meal preparation, washing dishes, cleaning tables, serving food, etc.

TIME for Me, or Trauma-Informed Mentoring for Excellence, is a program at Ryves Youth Center that matches girls and
boys ages 9-17 with approved Catholic Charities volunteer mentors.

The mentor-mentee relationship is fostered through weekly meetings, and all in-person meetings take place at Ryves
Youth Center. Research shows mentoring is not only a positive experience in a youth’s life but also improves academic
performance, builds confidence and decreases the likelihood to use drugs and alcohol. Mentored children are also
less likely to drop out of school or enter the juvenile justice system.

Thanks to a prestigious grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP),
TIME for Me at Ryves Youth Center fosters one-on-one
relationships on-site for one hour a week for 12 months.
Ryves group activities including Salsa Club, tutoring, story
time and Fun Food Fridays are offered to mentees.

Mentor Requirements:
• 21 years of age or older
• Interviews with Mentor Coordinator
• Submits volunteer application
• Background check
• Safe Parish online training
• Group interview involving mentor, mentee and parent
or guardian
• Completes Certification in Inclusive Mentoring Practices

We need your knowledge to help victims in our support groups at our emergency shelter! If you have a skill or passion you would like to share with others, please contact us! 

There are a variety of opportunities for creating a support group, such as cooking a meal with the group, doing a make-up tutorial, explaining how a checking account and credit cards work, etc. No idea is a bad idea! Most groups last 1 hour and you will have shelter staff available to assist you. We are open to days and times convenient for you!

Survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault often need ongoing support throughout their lives. We are looking for volunteers interested in being partnered with a victim who has used CODA services to exchange contact information so the victim can refer to you as part of their emotional support team. 

A support system is vital in helping a Survivor not return to a violent environment!

CODA is in need of one or two volunteers that are willing to complete small tasks around the emergency shelter including: changing filters, changing lightbulbs, painting, cleaning gutters, power washing, replacing blinds and other similar tasks.

10 THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE YOU VOLUNTEER TO BE A BIG:

1. Make sure you can give at least one year to the program, along with 4 hours a month. Research shows that kids matched for over a year are more likely to stay in school and avoid risky behaviors.

2. You will need transportation to participate in community activities.

3. We match you with your Little Brother or Little Sister based on your likes and interests, not from a waiting list.

4. Think about what times/days out of the week you would prefer to spend with your "Little." Weekends tend to work out the best for everyone, but ultimately our program is flexible to fit your schedule needs.

5. Do you have any big life events coming up in your life? Make sure your significant other is supportive of you being in the program!

6. Are you employed? Do you have any plans to change jobs within the next year? Location is a huge factor for successful matches, so we want to make sure you are staying in the area.

7. We have multiple kids waiting for a "Big." If you have the flexibility, ask about the locations that have the highest need.

8. You do not necessarily need experience with kids to be a Big. We provide you with the tools and training you need throughout the friendship to help you through every obstacle.

9. We want you to go into your match with realistic expectations. Your Little wants a friend to hang out with and talk to. The key is to focus on building your friendship before changing their lives.

10. Matching you with a Little could take some time, but be patient. Speed along the process by getting your recommendations together and clearing time in your schedule for an interview at our office.

We need help on a weekly basis to repackage diapers from large boxes into bags of 25.  We usually work for an hour or two. We can work at different days and times according to when you are available. 

Kindred Hospice is seeking new volunteers to join our hospice team. Our volunteers become a big part of our team as they are visiting with our patients. Our patients need companionship, socialization, emotional support and more. By becoming a volunteer with our hospice team you become a light for our patients.

One of the biggest road blocks to cancer treatment can be lack of transportation. That's why the American Cancer Society Road to Recovery program provides patients in need with free rides to treatment. Volunteer to drive when it's convenient with your schedule. Not only would you help give patients a much-needed ride, but you might also be surprised by the pick-me-up you get in return!

Individuals with an interest in promoting musical participation for young people are needed to serve on the board of a long-standing Terre Haute organization.

In partnership with the ISU Community School of the Arts, the Terre Haute Children's Choir Board oversees and promotes the activities of the choir, hires music directors, manages finances and initiates fund-raising.

We are always looking for caring adults to become mentors to a Marshall student in need! We always have students at all grade levels who are waiting for an adult to mentor them!

Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity is always needing volunteers! Currently we have a new home project going on and are in need of skilled and unskilled volunteers to do a number of things. There will be plumbing, painting, flooring, landscaping, as well as other duties on this project. If you want to help out while learning new skills then this is for you!

Parking attendants in the Asphalt and 3rd Street lots take payment for vehicles coming into the stadium. The parking lots are self-park. The parking attendant will only take payments and check parking passes.

Teen Court is a real courtroom and part of the Vigo County Judicial system targeted at first-time offenders and designed as a type of deferral program. Cases heard in Teen Court include charges such as shoplifting, possession of alcohol, criminal mischief, and many other misdemeanor offenses. The Court, comprised of teenage attorneys and jurors, along with the adult judge, agrees upon a constructive sentence deemed appropriate. 

Judges should be a local attorney willing to donate 2 hours twice a month (5-7PM) for Teen Court during the school year. Short training required.

Camp Rave is a fun-filled summer with educational and recreational activities, including environmental discovery, arts, character development, literacy, health and wellness, and much more. Located at Chances And Services for Youth, Camp RAVE is open to any self- sufficient youth who has just completed Kindergarten through Fifth grade. Camp RAVE operates in the summer (after school is out), Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

A Guest Speaker can make a presentation, provide interactive learning experience, or include hands-on experiences that children can participate in (animals, STEM, etc.)

Teen Court is a real courtroom and part of the Vigo County Judicial system. Teens, 6th grade through 12th grade, have the opportunity to participate as jurors and/or attorneys. Teen attorneys are selected from those who participate in the training sessions. Help to assist our Maintenance Specialist in building and maintaining trails in the park. 

The Wabash Valley Habitat ReStore has an immediate need for a dedicated, enthusiastic volunteer to who can commit to working two days a week. (Wednesday and Friday) This position is perfect for recent a retiree who has a knack for retail or a passion for recycling. 

The volunteer position is responsible for a variety of duties including displaying merchandise, maintaining a safe and clean environment, loading and unloading donations and purchases, and maintaining an extraordinary donor, volunteer, and shopper experience in the Habitat ReStore.

The Chaplain’s Office utilizes lay volunteers as room visitors.  These volunteers make room visits Monday through Friday.  The room visitors introduce spiritual care services to patient and notifies staff of any requests.

We currently have 15 volunteer chaplains, but we can always use more.  The chaplains are assigned one day per month to serve the patients of Union Hospital. 

We also have ICU Waiting Room lay volunteers who serve morning, afternoon, or evening shifts Sunday through Saturday.  Volunteers act as a liaison between the families and the staff and patients in ICU.  These volunteers commit to a minimum of three hour shifts.

At Union Hospital, volunteers have the opportunity to become members of the Service League.  Besides providing volunteer services to the hospital, the Service League plays a key role in raising money to purchase necessary equipment and services.  In the past five years, the Service League has raised more than $400,000, which is donated to the hospital.  Membership dues are $5 annually for those actively volunteering.
