Description

Veteran volunteers share a cultural bond that opens a door of trust with our veteran patients.

Volunteers may assist in a number of ways:

  • Work directly with Veteran patients and families by providing individual patient support/companionship
  • Assist Veterans and their families in reminiscing/telling service related, as well as life stories
  • Provide Veteran support by visiting at The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care at Union Hospital
  • Provide caregiver respite to allow the primary caregiver time to run errands, go to doctor appointments, etc.
  • Assist with bereavement support for Veteran families/caregivers
  • Assist with special events including taking part in pinning ceremonies to recognize patient time in the military

Wherever your talents lie, Hospice of the Wabash Valley has a place for them.  We serve Clay, Parke, Vermillion, Sullivan and Vigo Counties.  Veteran Volunteers can choose which county they want to volunteer in as well as what activities they wish to participate in. For more information about the many Veteran volunteer opportunities available, please contact Hospice of the Wabash Valley at (812)234-2515.
