Who We Are
Family Service Association of the Wabash Valley Inc., now doing business as FSA Counseling Center, has served the Wabash Valley since at least 1862, and was incorporated in 1948.
Previous names include the Ladies Aide Society, Society for Organized Charity, and from the 1920's to 1940's, we were known as the Family Welfare Society. Originally, FSA was dedicated to helping widows and orphans of the Civil War following a donation of $500 from Chauncey Rose. During the 1920's Family Service Organization ran the Friendly Inn, which provided housing and meals to transient individuals, and financial assistance to those in need. Additional services at that time included the Fresh Air Mission, which was later known as the Fresh Air Camp, to provide an opportunity for outdoor experiences to underprivileged children.
Through the years FSA has been able to recognize the community needs, and over time we have transformed ourselves into the quality, affordable counseling agency we are today.
What We Do
Mission: The mission of FSA Counseling Center is to improve the lives of individuals and families by providing affordable, quality counseling and education.
FSA Counseling Center is grateful and proud to be celebrating 160 years of providing affordable and accessible mental health services in the Wabash Valley. Our services include: counseling, victim services, batterer’s intervention, life skills and community education and training, trans-parenting and crisis debriefing. Through our unique reduced-fee services and our sliding-scale fee, we provide a space for individuals who choose to come, and open our door to those who experience barriers to treatment – with those individuals often being the underinsured or not-insured.
To FSA Counseling Center, community means providing the very best counseling services, programs, and educational outreach to everyone.
Additional services include intervention and advocacy for victims of sexual assault and other crimes, with outreach efforts, training and education provided to law enforcement and the community. Counseling and prevention services are provided in the office, schools, juvenile detention center, the jail, at St. Mary of the Woods, for the Sisters of Providence and in the CODA shelter. Individuals are served from Vigo, Parke, Vermillion, Sullivan and Clay counties in Indiana and Clark and Crawford counties in Illinois.
