Who We Are
The 14th and Chestnut Community center is a faith-based Nonprofit organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of local children. The community center runs an after school program and other various programs throughout the year in order to ensure these children have what they need. We do that through backpacks with school supplies, new shoes, food baskets for thanksgiving and Christmas, Christmas gifts, weekly visits to the clothes closet we have, tutoring, dinner during the school year, breakfast/lunch during the summer, and so much more. There is a food pantry open to the community that is also run by the community center.
What We Do
Students come here after school and get a snack before being broken up into their groups. The groups are divided into: K-2, 3-5, and 6th grade and up boys and girls. These 6 groups are led by mostly college students to different 30 minute stations during their time here. Those stations include group games, playground time, reading, computer lab, life skills, board games, crafts, video games, etc.. and a time of worship and chapel at the end of the day. After the group time of chapel, they go down to the gym for dinner where we have 2 cooks lead a team of volunteers and serve them dinner.
We also have a clothes closet once a week with a group of dedicated volunteers come and help students get gently used clothes. We have a homework room with tutors here open Monday through Thursday to help students with educational needs that are volunteers from the community. We also have a food pantry open across our parking lot open once a week to the community with another group of dedicated volunteers.
